Interview completed

Well, today I had my meeting with the Detective from the LASD (Los Angeles Sheriff's Department) It went great, I got all my questions answered and a TON of good information on how police work is done for different situations. Some of what he told me went along with what I had already written, and some other things that I found out will make me go back and change up some paragraphs that I've previously written. I really don't have a problem with re-writing anything at all, just so long as the story line maintains a continuity and stays true to real life.

I imagine that I will probably have to take some "artistic license" with the story, but the less I take the better! I want detectives to be able to read this and agree witht the steps that I take. Well, that's about it. I'm going to be transcribing my interview later on today, so I'll be pretty busy!

Back to writing...

Hey Thomas! Welcome to myfavoriteauthor! Your blog looks great! I just wanted to say welcome!
Are you planning on self publishing your book? Good luck finishing it! Finishing and editing is a BIG step! But it sounds like you are actively working on it, which is the most important thing! We look forward to seeing you over at myfavoriteauthor!

Aubrey,
Thanks for the welcome. I will be sending out my manuscript near the end of the year to several agents. The thought of self-publishing has crossed my mind, but I would like to have the backing of someone that knows the publishing world better than I do. There are many unscrupulous people out there, and an agent can help me to avoid those.

I have been reading over several previous posts at myfavoriteauthor and it looks to have LOTS of great information.

I'm hoping that my book will be quickly snatched up by one of the first few agents who see it and subsquently bought by a rather large publishing house. Of course, seeing as how I write fiction and don't LIVE fiction, I'm pretty sure I'll have to wade my way through quite a few rejections before all is done.

Who knows, one day my name and book will also find a place under the "Books we are looking forward to being published". (I'll keep my toes crossed, to leave my fingers open for typing)

I understand how hard the process is! Good luck with it! I was only wondering if you were self publishing since you had a time frame up for "finishing" your book. I suppose that is just your goal for finishing the writing/editing before sending to agents.

One of the best places to search for agents is agentquery.com Ususally they have links to thier agency websites, info on how they prefer to be querried and what they are looking for, and links to thier personal blogs and/or interviews they have given. Be prepared to spend hours searching all the agents in your genre, and make a list in order of your favs to least favs...cause you just might need to go through a good long list!

Good luck with it all! It is a hard process! Next month on favoriteauthor we are featuring new authors that are debuting in early 2009, be sure to check it out and see what they have to say about thier path to becoming published!
